# General

This page explains the main features and functionality of the Aranet4 device, including its measurements, display indicators, and basic operating principles.


# What Does the Aranet4 Do?

#### A CO<sub>2</sub> monitor that tells you when to air out your room!

Aranet4 HOME measures CO<sub>2</sub>, temperature, humidity, and ambient pressure in real time. It shows when indoor air becomes stale and reminds you to ventilate for better focus, sleep, and health. Battery powered, cable free, connects to the Aranet Home app for trends and alerts.

The device is suitable for monitoring the CO₂ level at home, in school, office,&#x20; or any other indoor environment.&#x20;Measurement data is displayed on a power-efficient e-ink screen with a long battery life. Additionally, the device&#x20;provides visual and optional buzzer notifications when the CO₂ concentration becomes unhealthy. CO₂&#x20;concentration levels of 1400 ppm (parts per million) and up are unhealthy and can cause drowsiness and decrease&#x20;cognitive function by 50%. A high concentration of CO₂ is an indicator of insufficient ventilation, which can increase&#x20;the risk of infection with airborne diseases.

#### Carbon Dioxide (CO₂)

The Aranet4 uses a **Non-Dispersive Infrared (NDIR)** sensor to measure carbon dioxide levels. Inside the device, an infrared light source shines through an air chamber toward a detector. CO₂ molecules absorb light at a specific infrared wavelength (\~4.26 μm). By measuring how much light is absorbed, the device calculates the CO₂ concentration. NDIR sensors are highly stable, selective, and the industry standard for accurate indoor air monitoring.

#### Temperature and Relative Humidity (T/RH)

Temperature and humidity are measured using a **precision digital sensor** that includes a tiny thermistor and a capacitive humidity element. The thermistor changes its electrical resistance with temperature, while the humidity element changes capacitance based on moisture in the air. The sensor converts these physical changes into digital readings, giving accurate T/RH measurements with minimal drift.

#### Atmospheric Pressure (hPa)

The Aranet4 includes a barometric pressure sensor to ensure accurate CO₂ measurements. Because NDIR CO₂ sensing depends on the number of gas molecules inside the optical chamber, changes in atmospheric pressure—caused by weather or altitude—would otherwise influence the reading. By monitoring pressure, the Aranet4 can automatically compensate for these variations, delivering consistent, precise CO₂ values regardless of environmental conditions.


# Device Lifespan

Excluding the batteries, the NDIR sensor itself can last up to 15 years. The battery life of two AA batteries that the device uses is dependent on some conditions. See the table below:

#### Waste of electronics

Waste batteries and electronic equipment must be taken to household hazardous waste collection points! You may search the internet for the closest collection point in the area where you are located.&#x20;

**Never** put these items in household garbage or recycling bins!&#x20;

**Do not expose** the batteries to fire! Do not dismantle them!&#x20;

Waste of batteries and electronic equipment can contain substances and materials that can harm the environment and living beings if treated as regular household waste.&#x20;


# Power Options

The Aranet4 can run either on standard AA batteries or via a dedicated AC power adapter. Out-of-the-box it uses **two AA batteries**, which — thanks to its power-efficient e-ink display and smart power management — can last for a few years and potentially much longer if data updates are infrequent. For installations where you prefer continuous monitoring without battery maintenance, an **optional AC adapter** can be used to keep the device powered indefinitely. # How to Update Firmware

Starting from Aranet Home app version v2.0 firmware update can be done as follows:

1. Click on the settings “wheel” icon in the record of the necessary device;
2. In the newly opened page click on section **Firmware**;
3. Finally click on the button  **START UPDATE**:

**Important!** Sometimes there might be an issue where the sensor is stuck during some operation, for example, a firmware upgrade. In this case, it is advised to open the Aranet4 app and try to add a new sensor. In most cases, this sensor will be discovered, paired back to the app and working again. If the issue still persists, please contact <support@aranet.com>


# Stuck in Firmware Upgrade Mode

If your Aranet device gets stuck in firmware update, then follow these steps:\
NOTE: This only works from the Aranet Home app v3.4.2. As such, you should update your app before trying this.

1. Remove batteries and place them back after a few minutes.
2. Do “PAIR NEW DEVICE” from the application settings menu – the app will find the failed Aranet4 device and will start firmware recovery

# Usage & Measurements

This page explains how Aranet4 performs measurements, including sensor behavior, data interpretation, and measurement intervals.


# Data Storage

The amount of historical measurement data stored is directly tied to the measurement interval set on the device:

**Memory management**

Altering the measurement interval triggers a restructuring of existing data in the memory system.

For instance, switching from a shorter interval (e.g., 1 minute) to a longer one (e.g., 10 minutes) aggregates ten 1-minute measurements to compute and store an average value. Conversely, adjusting from a longer interval (e.g., 10 minutes) to a shorter one (e.g., 1 minute) generates supplementary data in 1-minute intervals by extrapolating values from 10-minute measurements, creating a sequence of 10-minute "steps" with identical values.

Frequent changes in measurement intervals are discouraged due to the resulting data loss caused by averaging and padding.

If more frequent measurements are required, use the "on-demand measurement" feature for instant measurement.

**Background data download**

The data can be downloaded in the background if the application runs as a background process and "Background data read" is enabled in the app settings.

**Note:** This information pertains to firmware version v1.4.14 onwards. Refer to the [changelog of the firmware](/aranet4/aranet4-home/documents-and-firmware/firmware-changelog) for additional details.<br>


# Default Settings

The Aranet4 is calibrated in the factory, and it works instantly when it you take it out of the box and insert the batteries – no additional setup is needed. These are the default settings of the Aranet4 device:

1. The default measurement interval is set to 5 minutes;
2. CO₂ sensor automatic calibration is disabled;
3. The default temperature measurement units are set to Celsius;
4. Bluetooth connection is enabled;
5. Bluetooth connection transmission range is set to normal;
6. The buzzer for audio sound alarm notifications is disabled;
7. CO₂ indication is set to human mode;
8. Access to Homey Smart Home assistant is enabled.

The 2nd, 3rd and 4th settings can be changed with the switches in the battery compartment on the back of the device for the Aranet4 screen, but the remaining five settings can only be changed via the Aranet Home phone application.


# Calibration and Its Errors

#### How to calibrate?

The Aranet4 can be calibrated either automatically or manually at home. The general recommendation is to redo the calibration for Aranet4 sensors once per year, as the sensor measurement values will start to drift over time.

Out-of-the-box brand new sensors have the factory calibration and for some time there is no need to do it and measurements will be precise just by putting the batteries and pairing sensors to the Aranet PRO base station.

In the case of automatic calibration mode, the Aranet4 device will use the lowest ppm data of approximately 8 hours of the lowest measurements during each 30-day operation period. If the lowest recorded measurement was 460 ppm, then this will be considered as 420 ppm. In automatic calibration, the deviation might vary.

When doing a **manual** calibration the Aranet4 device must be exposed to fresh air (about 420 ppm of CO₂) and the environment should be stable (not changing) for 30 minutes while the calibration is done. Maintain a distance of at least 1 meter from the device during the calibration process so the CO₂ from your breath wouldn’t impede the calibration. To initiate the manual CO₂ calibration change the switch position at the back of the device behind the batteries from MANUAL to AUTO and back to MANUAL (maintain a maximum of 1 second between each movement):<br>

**Please note! The batteries must be inserted into the device. To trigger the switch, use SIM-tool delivered with Aranet4 or another similar tool.**

The calibration progress will be displayed on the screen of the device. In case of a calibration failure message, make sure that the environmental requirements are met and repeat the process from the beginning.

**Manual calibration can be done using the Aranet Home app as well.** You can see the instructions on how to do the manual calibration via the app.

#### Calibration error

#### CALIBRATION FAILED ! Unexpected error

Remove the batteries for 15 minutes and try the calibration again. If the calibration is still not possible and an error is still shown on the screen of the device, then please proceed with the RMA process: [**https://rma.aranet.com/**](https://rma.aranet.com/)

#### Calibration failed, unstable environment

The error message "Calibration failed, unstable environment" - means that during the calibration process of the Aranet4 device, the CO₂ concentration level changes in the surrounding air were too large for the device to correctly set the 420 ppm calibration baseline.

To recover the operation of the device and obtain a successful and correct calibration result, please try:

1. Take out the batteries of the Aranet4 device;
2. Put batteries in the correct polarization again inside the device (both batteries in the same direction with + pole on the left side);
3. Restart the phone where the Aranet4 application is installed;
4. Try the calibration again as shown in the video, except it is better to put the sensor, if possible, in an outdoor environment during the calibration process for 15 minutes without any person nearby;

#### Other error messages

There are three kinds of error messages that can appear on the screen of the device:

# Where to Place the Device in a Room

The Aranet4 can be placed anywhere in the room where you tend to spend a lot of time – on a surface, or mounted on the wall, where it can be comfortably seen. Since people and animals exhale CO₂, the readings can be momentarily higher if you breathe directly on the sensor, so holding the sensor in your hand can sometimes give a higher measurement. However, placing the sensor near a window or entrance door might give a slightly lower reading because of the airflow in these areas.

The Aranet4 should not be placed in direct sunlight or in areas with a risk of splashing the sensor with different liquids, or high-humidity environments (higher than 85%), such as your bathroom. Place the sensor in a safe place where it cannot accidentally be dropped because it isn’t drop-proof.

When placing the sensor, make sure the openings on the sides of the device aren't covered.


# Use in High Altitude Areas

The CO₂ sensor of the device is calibrated at standard atmospheric pressure. If the device has to be used at high altitude, [manual calibration](/aranet4/aranet4-home/usage-and-measurements/calibration-and-its-errors) of the unit should be performed. It is not intended to use the device higher than 4000 m (13 000 ft) above sea level.

# Aranet Home App

This page explains how to connect Aranet Home sensor to the Aranet Home mobile application, including pairing procedures and available app features.


# Aranet Home App Overview

The Aranet Home app is the companion mobile app for Aranet’s indoor-environment sensors (like Aranet4, Aranet2, Aranet Rn+, Aranet Radon One and Aranet Radiation sensor devices).

Compatible with both iOS (iPhone / iPad) and Android.

Using the app, you get a convenient hub for monitoring, configuring, and analysing data from your sensors. Key features:

* **Real-time readings** — view current measurements (CO₂, temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, and more, depending on the device).&#x20;
* **Measurement history & data storage** — you can store past measurements (history) and review data over time. The app supports up to **90 days** of history (depending on the device and its settings).&#x20;
* **Customizable measurement intervals** — you can set how often the sensor measures and sends data: 1, 2, 5, or 10 minutes.&#x20;
* **Charts & data visualisation** — the app turns raw sensor data into easy-to-read charts and colour-coded visuals, so you can spot trends (like CO₂ spikes, humidity swings, etc.) over time.&#x20;
* **Export data** — you can export stored data (e.g. CSV or XLSX), which is useful if you want to analyze data elsewhere or keep long-term logs.&#x20;
* **Device configuration & management** — you can pair/unpair devices, update firmware, adjust sensor settings (e.g. measurement frequency, CO₂ threshold levels, buzzer/alert settings), rename devices, etc.
* **Widgets** — on supported mobile devices you can add app widgets for quick-glance values without opening the full app.&#x20;
* **Smart alerts / Notifications** — the app can notify you when certain thresholds are exceeded (e.g. CO₂ levels go into “unhealthy” range) or if the battery is low (for battery-powered devices).&#x20;

Also, the app supports multiple languages (English, German, French, Latvian, and more).


# How to Pair With the Aranet Home App

1. Download and install the latest Aranet Home app version:

2. Launch the Aranet Home app.

3. Stay close to your Aranet sensor and press “+ ADD NEW DEVICE” button:
4. When the application discovers your Aranet sensor, press “+ PAIR” button:

5\. Press “ACCEPT” button when the system asks for permission:

6\. At this moment the Aranet sensor will show **6-digit number** on its screen. This is the PIN code you should enter into the application screen:

# Bluetooth and Pairing Issues

#### Why is Bluetooth pairing taking so long? Why didn’t I get a PIN request on my phone?

Bluetooth pairing usually takes about 10 to 15 seconds. If it takes more than 60 seconds or an error message appears on the screen of the device, the pairing process likely has crashed.

#### What would be the first things to try if the Aranet device is not pairing to the Aranet Home application on a mobile device?

Please first try:

1. Take out the batteries of the Aranet device.
2. Set jumper switch in the battery compartment for Bluetooth service in OFF (down) position, then back to ON (Up) position;
3. If you have the Aranet4 or Aranet2 Home device (Not Pro), then also make sure the 4th switch is in the OFF (down) position.
4. Put batteries in the correct polarisation again inside the Aranet (both batteries in the same direction with the + pole on the left side);
5. Uninstall the Aranet Home app completely and delete/forget the paired Aranet device from Bluetooth connected devices on the mobile device.
6. Restart the mobile device.
7. &#x20;Install the application again and pair the Aranet device to the mobile device, not via the Bluetooth devices menu, but only via the Aranet Home application.


# Measurement Units

The Aranet device units can be changed in the Aranet Home App settings. The settings here are only used for the displayed units in the app. If you want to change the units on the E-Ink display, then you can do that at the back of the device behind the batteries. The 1st switch changes the units.\
For the Aranet4 and Aranet2, it changes the Temperature unit, and for the Radiation sensor changes the Radiation unit. As the Pressure measurements are only available in the app, those units can only be changed here.

# Graphs

The Aranet Home app has a built-in graph visualisation. To access it you can press the graph button and  then see the graphs. The graphs will then load, and you can switch between the length of time you want to see on the graph. As well as, at the bottom of the screen, between the different measurements of the device.

The radiation sensor graph looks a bit different. There are green, yellow and red areas which correspond normal/background, above background and health risk levels. The cumulative graph also shows these levels.

# Exporting Measurement Data

Here you can also export measurement data by pressing on the button at the top right (**MAKE SURE TO WAIT UNTIL ALL DATA IS GATHERED, OR YOU WILL HAVE HOLES IN YOUR DATA)**\
You can choose to download in a .csv or a .xlsx format, and for a lot of different time intervals.\
The time format of the downloaded file is the same as the one in the app settings.

# Coloured Thresholds

Starting from Aranet Home app version v2.0.4 it is possible to change colour indication threshold levels for the measurements.\
In the example below, it is done for CO₂ measurements.

From the Aranet Home application, it is possible to change the value for both yellow and red threshold levels of the Aranet4 device in the range of 300 to 2000 ppm.

To configure these levels in the Aranet4 application, please:

1. Click on the settings “wheel” icon in the record of the necessary Aranet4 device;
2. In the newly opened page, click on the section **CO₂ indication mode**.
3. Select **Custom** indication mode.
4. Set the Yellow threshold value as necessary.
5. Set the Red threshold value as necessary.
6. Save settings by pressing on **APPLY CHANGES** button.
7. In case new threshold levels were successfully configured, then the Aranet4 application will show a success message: **CO₂ indication mode changed**.

The colour indication threshold level changing was not possible with application versions up to v1.20.\
By default, the CO₂ measurement colour indication threshold levels were as follows:\
Green – below 1000 ppm\
Yellow – 1000 - 1400 ppm\

# Background Data Read

Background data read is an option in the Aranet Home settings, that, when enabled, will enable the Aranet Home App on a periodic basis (once every few hours) to read data from paired Aranet devices. The devices must be within range of the phone/tablet running the Aranet Home App.&#x20;

The data is then stored locally on the Aranet Home app (90 days of data storage per device).


# Notifications and Buzzer Settings

#### Push notifications

Starting from Aranet Home App v3.8.2, push notifications can be enabled in the Aranet Home app settings. (Works better with background data read enabled)\
You will get periodic notifications if any of the sensors move past their configured thresholds.

#### Buzzer

The buzzer is an audio alarm built into all of the Aranet devices. When the buzzer is enabled (switched on), the "speaker" icon is visible on the Aranet display. It can be enabled behind the batteries as the second switch and in the Aranet Home app:

To access Aranet buzzer settings, open the Aranet Home app:

1. Navigate to sensor settings by pressing the "gear" icon;

# Fullscreen Display on a Smart TV

#### How to display the Aranet Home application data in full-screen mode from iOS Apple devices to Apple TV?

Once the Aranet sensor is paired to the Aranet Home application on the iOS mobile device, you can display the measurement data from the sensor in full-screen mode on the app. This can be done in the following way:

1\. Click on the collapsed menu icon in the top right corner of the application main page;

2\. Click on the section **Fullscreen mode**;

3\. Select **Dark theme** or **Light theme** for the fullscreen mode;

4\. Go back to the application main page and click on the Fullscreen icon;

5\. Rotate the mobile device itself to landscape mode.

To replicate information from any Android device to a Smart TV, both devices should support Miracast or Screen Mirroring functionality (also called HDMI over Wi-Fi).&#x20;

If you have both devices compatible with Miracast, then once the Aranet4 sensor is paired to the Aranet4 application on the Android mobile device, you can display the measurement data from the sensor in full-screen mode on the app. This can be done in the following way:

1\. Click on the collapsed menu icon in the top right corner of the application main page;

2\. Click on the section **Fullscreen mode**;

3\. Select **Dark theme** or **Light theme** for the fullscreen mode;

4\. Go back to the application main page and click on the Fullscreen icon;

# Handling and Cleaning

The Aranet devices are advanced electronic device in a plastic case. You should handle and clean it the same way you deal with other household electronic devices.

#### Handling

* Aranet devices are not impact-resistant; do not drop or hit it.
* Aranet devices are not waterproof; do not use it in high humidity environments (greater than 85%).
* Do not leave Aranet devices in direct sunlight. This can damage the E-ink screen
* Do not expose Aranet devices to strong electromagnetic fields.
* Aranet devices are intended for use at temperatures 0 °C to 50 °C (32 °F to 122 °F). Exposure to lower temperatures can damage the device.

#### Cleaning

You can clean your Aranet device with lukewarm water and mild soap. Mix some soap and water in a bucket, clean the case using a slightly wet soft sponge or microfiber cloth to avoid scratching the material and water drops entering the case. Make sure your detergent has no harsh chemicals that could damage the plastic and sensor, such as white spirits or Clorox.

#### Disinfecting

Alcohol solutions (alcohol / purified water) or wipes with at least 70 per cent alcohol are effective for the sanitization of the Aranet case. First, clean the surface with soap and water as described above. Apply the alcohol solution and let it sit on the surface for at least 30 seconds to disinfect. Wipe dry with a clean cloth.

You can use low-power household UV-disinfectors for Aranet4 disinfection, too. Follow the UV-disinfector instructions and do not overexpose Aranet4 to UV radiation.


# Mounting on a Surface or Wall

Such mounting is normal and will not affect the device measurement precision, as air vents are located on the sidewalls of the device body.

<summary>How and when to calibrate Aranet4 Home?</summary>

Aranet4 is calibrated at the factory, so if you’ve just received your new device, there is no need to calibrate it immediately. We recommend calibrating Aranet4 once a year.

Aranet4 can be calibrated either automatically or manually at home. In automatic calibration mode, the Aranet4 device needs to be exposed to fresh air with approximately 420 ppm of CO<sub>2</sub> (for example, outdoors or in a room with very good air exchange) for about 8 hours during each 30-day operation period.

For manual calibration, the Aranet4 device must be exposed to fresh air (around 420 ppm of CO<sub>2)</sub>, such as in a forest. The environment should be stable (unchanging) for 30 minutes during the calibration. Maintain a distance of at least 1 meter from the device during the calibration process to ensure the CO<sub>2</sub> from your breath doesn’t affect the calibration. To initiate manual CO<sub>2</sub> calibration, change the 1st switch position at the back of the device, behind the batteries, from MANUAL to AUTO and back to MANUAL, keeping a maximum of 1 second between each movement. The batteries must be installed in the device. The calibration progress will be displayed on the device’s screen.

Aranet4 uses a non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) sensor to measure CO<sub>2</sub> levels. The device features a small gas chamber with an infrared light source, where CO<sub>2</sub> absorbs the light. An optical filter in front of the detector then filters out all light except the wavelength absorbable by CO<sub>2</sub> molecules, enabling a precise CO<sub>2</sub> concentration level measurement. This CO<sub>2</sub> reading method offers higher precision than regular electro-chemical sensors, as it uniquely detects carbon dioxide with no interference from other gases. # Stuck in Firmware Upgrade Mode

If your Aranet device gets stuck in firmware update, then follow these steps:\
NOTE: This only works from the Aranet Home app v3.4.2. As such, you should update your app before trying this.

1. Remove batteries and place them back after a few minutes.
2. Do “PAIR NEW DEVICE” from the application settings menu – the app will find the failed Aranet4 device and will start firmware recovery

# Usage and Measurements

This page explains how Aranet Radon Plus performs measurements, including sensor behavior, data interpretation, and measurement intervals.


# Measurement Units

The Aranet device units can be changed in the Aranet Home App settings. The settings here are only used for the displayed units in the app. If you want to change the units on the E-Ink display, then you can do that at the back of the device behind the batteries. The 1st switch changes the units.\
For the Aranet4 and Aranet2, it changes the Temperature unit, and for the Radiation sensor changes the Radiation unit. As the Pressure measurements are only available in the app, those units can only be changed here.

# Data Storage

Radon Plus Sensor is compatible with smart devices conforming to Bluetooth specification 4.1 and up.\
Bluetooth is utilized to enable the functionality of the Aranet Home mobile application. When transferring data to&#x20;Aranet Home, **device memory provides 30 days historic data availability**.


# Default settings


# Where to Place the Device in a Room

For accurate readings, the **Aranet Radon Plus sensor** should be placed where radon is most likely to accumulate and where people actually spend time. In homes, this is typically the **lowest regularly occupied level** (such as a basement or ground floor). Position the device **0.8–2 meters (2.5–6.5 ft)** above the floor, in an open area with normal air circulation. Avoid placing it near windows, doors, ventilation outlets, or exterior walls, as drafts and fresh air can dilute radon levels and distort measurements. Do not place the sensor in kitchens, bathrooms, or directly next to heat sources or electronic devices. A stable, central location away from direct sunlight will provide the most representative long-term radon measurements.

The Aranet Radon Plus sensor should not be placed in direct sunlight or in areas with a risk of splashing the sensor with different liquids, or high-humidity environments (higher than 85%), such as your bathroom. Place the sensor in a safe place where it cannot accidentally be dropped because it isn’t drop-proof.


# Sensor Lock Feature

The Sensor Lock feature is available only for the **Aranet Radon Plus Pro** sensor.

This feature is designed for professionals performing measurements in locations such as private homes, where it is important that the device is not tampered with. It can also be useful in public environments, such as schools.

#### Functionality

When the sensor is locked:

* The screen will not show measurement data and will display the **Aranet logo** instead (similar to the screen disable feature on Aranet4 Pro).

* If the sensor button is pressed, a message will appear indicating that the device is locked and cannot be used.

* New Bluetooth pairings are not allowed. Previously paired devices will remain connected.

#### Locking the sensor after FW is upgraded

Open the Aranet Home app and go to the device settings. Check if the latest firmware version is installed. If not, update it.

After updating, the Lock device option will become available. Press **Lock device** to activate the feature.

#### Unlocking the sensor

To unlock the sensor, use the Aranet Home app. Open the app and go to the device settings.

Find the Lock device option and press on it. As soon as the switch is in light grey, the device is unlocked.

After unlocking, the sensor will return to normal operation, and measurements will be visible again.

# Aranet Home App Overview

The Aranet Home app is the companion mobile app for Aranet’s indoor-environment sensors (like Aranet4, Aranet2, Aranet Rn+, Aranet Radon One and Aranet Radiation sensor devices).

Compatible with both iOS (iPhone / iPad) and Android.

Using the app, you get a convenient hub for monitoring, configuring, and analysing data from your sensors. Key features:

* **Real-time readings** — view current measurements (CO₂, temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, and more, depending on the device).&#x20;
* **Measurement history & data storage** — you can store past measurements (history) and review data over time. The app supports up to **90 days** of history (depending on the device and its settings).&#x20;
* **Customizable measurement intervals** — you can set how often the sensor measures and sends data: 1, 2, 5, or 10 minutes.&#x20;
* **Charts & data visualisation** — the app turns raw sensor data into easy-to-read charts and colour-coded visuals, so you can spot trends (like CO₂ spikes, humidity swings, etc.) over time.&#x20;
* **Export data** — you can export stored data (e.g. CSV or XLSX), which is useful if you want to analyze data elsewhere or keep long-term logs.&#x20;
* **Device configuration & management** — you can pair/unpair devices, update firmware, adjust sensor settings (e.g. measurement frequency, CO₂ threshold levels, buzzer/alert settings), rename devices, etc.

# How to Pair With the Aranet Home App

1. Download and install the latest Aranet Home app version:

2. Launch the Aranet Home app.

# Bluetooth and Pairing Issues

#### Why is Bluetooth pairing taking so long? Why didn’t I get a PIN request on my phone?

Bluetooth pairing usually takes about 10 to 15 seconds. If it takes more than 60 seconds or an error message appears on the screen of the device, the pairing process likely has crashed.

Access to the device’s location information is a general requirement from Android operating system developers for Bluetooth Low Energy applications to work correctly. [**Read more»**](https://developer.android.com/about/versions/marshmallow/android-6.0-changes#behavior-hardware-id)\

#### What would be the first things to try if the Aranet device is not pairing to the Aranet Home application on a mobile device?

Please first try:

1. Take out the batteries of the Aranet device.
2. Set jumper switch in the battery compartment for Bluetooth service in OFF (down) position, then back to ON (Up) position;
3. If you have the Aranet4 or Aranet2 Home device (Not Pro), then also make sure the 4th switch is in the OFF (down) position.
4. Put batteries in the correct polarisation again inside the Aranet (both batteries in the same direction with the + pole on the left side);
5. Uninstall the Aranet Home app completely and delete/forget the paired Aranet device from Bluetooth connected devices on the mobile device.
6. Restart the mobile device.
7. &#x20;Install the application again and pair the Aranet device to the mobile device, not via the Bluetooth devices menu, but only via the Aranet Home application.


# Graphs

The Aranet Home app has a built-in graph visualisation. To access it you can press the graph button and  then see the graphs. The graphs will then load, and you can switch between the length of time you want to see on the graph. As well as, at the bottom of the screen, between the different measurements of the device.

The radiation sensor graph looks a bit different. There are green, yellow and red areas which correspond normal/background, above background and health risk levels. The cumulative graph also shows these levels.

# Exporting Measurement Data

Here you can also export measurement data by pressing on the button at the top right (**MAKE SURE TO WAIT UNTIL ALL DATA IS GATHERED, OR YOU WILL HAVE HOLES IN YOUR DATA)**\
You can choose to download in a .csv or a .xlsx format, and for a lot of different time intervals.\
The time format of the downloaded file is the same as the one in the app settings.

# Background Data Read

Background data read is an option in the Aranet Home settings, that, when enabled, will enable the Aranet Home App on a periodic basis (once every few hours) to read data from paired Aranet devices. The devices must be within range of the phone/tablet running the Aranet Home App.&#x20;

The data is then stored locally on the Aranet Home app (90 days of data storage per device).


# Coloured Thresholds

Starting from Aranet Home app version v2.0.4 it is possible to change colour indication threshold levels for the measurements.\
In the example below, it is done for CO₂ measurements.

From the Aranet Home application, it is possible to change the value for both yellow and red threshold levels of the Aranet4 device in the range of 300 to 2000 ppm.

To configure these levels in the Aranet4 application, please:

1. Click on the settings “wheel” icon in the record of the necessary Aranet4 device;
2. In the newly opened page, click on the section **CO₂ indication mode**.
3. Select **Custom** indication mode.
4. Set the Yellow threshold value as necessary.
5. Set the Red threshold value as necessary.
6. Save settings by pressing on **APPLY CHANGES** button.
7. In case new threshold levels were successfully configured, then the Aranet4 application will show a success message: **CO₂ indication mode changed**.

The colour indication threshold level changing was not possible with application versions up to v1.20.\
By default, the CO₂ measurement colour indication threshold levels were as follows:\
Green – below 1000 ppm\
Yellow – 1000 - 1400 ppm\
Red – above 1400 ppm\

Too High (red) — >26°C (78.8°F)\
Normal (green) — 20°C — 26°C (68.0 - 78.8°F)\
Too low (blue) — <20°C (68.0°F)

For RH:

Too High (red) — 70% RH\

Too low (blue) — 30% RH

For Radiation:

Green – below 0.20 μSv/h\
Yellow – 0.20 μSv/h —  10.0 μSv/h\
Red – above 10.0 μSv/h

For Radon:

Green – below 100 Bq/m<sup>3</sup>\

# Notification and Buzzer Settings

#### Push notifications

Starting from Aranet Home App v3.8.2, push notifications can be enabled in the Aranet Home app settings. (Works better with background data read enabled)\
You will get periodic notifications if any of the sensors move past their configured thresholds.

#### Buzzer

The buzzer is an audio alarm built into all of the Aranet devices. When the buzzer is enabled (switched on), the "speaker" icon is visible on the Aranet display. It can be enabled behind the batteries as the second switch and in the Aranet Home app:

To access Aranet buzzer settings, open the Aranet Home app:

1. Navigate to sensor settings by pressing the "gear" icon;

# Fullscreen Display on a Smart TV

#### How to display the Aranet Home application data in full-screen mode from iOS Apple devices to Apple TV?

Once the Aranet sensor is paired to the Aranet Home application on the iOS mobile device, you can display the measurement data from the sensor in full-screen mode on the app. This can be done in the following way:

1\. Click on the collapsed menu icon in the top right corner of the application main page;

2\. Click on the section **Fullscreen mode**;

3\. Select **Dark theme** or **Light theme** for the fullscreen mode;

4\. Go back to the application main page and click on the Fullscreen icon;

5\. Rotate the mobile device itself to landscape mode.

#### How to display Aranet Home application data in fullscreen mode from Android devices to Smart TV?

To replicate information from any Android device to a Smart TV, both devices should support Miracast or Screen Mirroring functionality (also called HDMI over Wi-Fi).&#x20;

If you have both devices compatible with Miracast, then once the Aranet4 sensor is paired to the Aranet4 application on the Android mobile device, you can display the measurement data from the sensor in full-screen mode on the app. This can be done in the following way:

1\. Click on the collapsed menu icon in the top right corner of the application main page;

2\. Click on the section **Fullscreen mode**;

3\. Select **Dark theme** or **Light theme** for the fullscreen mode;

4\. Go back to the application main page and click on the Fullscreen icon;

5\. Rotate the mobile device itself to landscape mode and now You can mirror its screen to Smart TV;

6\. Swiping from the top edge of the mobile device screen open the Android Control Panel, find the **Screen Cast** icon and click on it;

# Handling and Cleaning

The Aranet devices are advanced electronic device in a plastic case. You should handle and clean it the same way you deal with other household electronic devices.

#### Handling

* Aranet devices are not impact-resistant; do not drop or hit it.
* Aranet devices are not waterproof; do not use it in high humidity environments (greater than 85%).
* Do not leave Aranet devices in direct sunlight. This can damage the E-ink screen
* Do not expose Aranet devices to strong electromagnetic fields.
* Aranet devices are intended for use at temperatures 0 °C to 50 °C (32 °F to 122 °F). Exposure to lower temperatures can damage the device.

#### Cleaning

You can clean your Aranet device with lukewarm water and mild soap. Mix some soap and water in a bucket, clean the case using a slightly wet soft sponge or microfiber cloth to avoid scratching the material and water drops entering the case. Make sure your detergent has no harsh chemicals that could damage the plastic and sensor, such as white spirits or Clorox.

#### Disinfecting

Alcohol solutions (alcohol / purified water) or wipes with at least 70 per cent alcohol are effective for the sanitization of the Aranet case. First, clean the surface with soap and water as described above. Apply the alcohol solution and let it sit on the surface for at least 30 seconds to disinfect. Wipe dry with a clean cloth.

You can use low-power household UV-disinfectors for Aranet4 disinfection, too. Follow the UV-disinfector instructions and do not overexpose Aranet4 to UV radiation.

# What Does the Aranet Rn One Do?

The Aranet One Provides real-time measurements of radon gas&#x20;concentration. With its portability and extended&#x20;multi-year battery life, this device ensures convenience&#x20;and reliability in continuous indoor air quality monitoring.&#x20;This sensor, belonging to the Home sensor series, is&#x20;intended to be used together with the Aranet Home&#x20;mobile application for extended data browsing&#x20;capabilities.

#### What Does Aranet Radon One&#xD; Measure?

#### Radon Gas&#xD;

Radon gas is tasteless, odourless, and hard to detect, posing serious health risks. It escapes&#x20;from the ground into the air and can accumulate in your home. According to the&#x20;[World Health Organisation](https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/radon-and-health), radon is one of the leading causes of lung cancer.&#x20;Since its levels can fluctuate, regular radon monitoring is vital.&#x20;Aranet Radon One sensor offers real-time radon monitoring. It is the fastest sensor&#x20;on the market – offering first measurements already after 10 minutes and refined&#x20;measurements after 1h. The e-ink display and long battery life make it ideal for&#x20;continuous indoor air quality monitoring.


# Device Lifespan

The battery life of two AA batteries that the device uses is dependent on some conditions. See the table below:

# Power Options

The Aranet Radon one sensor runs on standard AA batteries. Out-of-the-box, it uses **two AA batteries**, which — thanks to its power-efficient e-ink display and smart power management — can last for a few years and potentially much longer if data updates are infrequent.

# How to Update Firmware

Starting from Aranet Home app version v2.0 firmware update can be done as follows:

1. Click on the settings “wheel” icon in the record of the necessary device;
2. In the newly opened page click on section **Firmware**;
3. Finally click on the button  **START UPDATE**:

**Important!** Sometimes there might be an issue where the sensor is stuck during some operation, for example, a firmware upgrade. In this case, it is advised to open the Aranet4 app and try to add a new sensor. In most cases, this sensor will be discovered, paired back to the app and working again. If the issue still persists, please contact <support@aranet.com>


# Stuck in Firmware Upgrade Mode

If your Aranet device gets stuck in firmware update, then follow these steps:\
NOTE: This only works from the Aranet Home app v3.4.2. As such, you should update your app before trying this.

1. Remove batteries and place them back after a few minutes.
2. Do “PAIR NEW DEVICE” from the application settings menu – the app will find the failed Aranet4 device and will start firmware recovery

# Usage and Measurements

This page explains how Aranet Radon One performs measurements, including sensor behavior, data interpretation, and measurement intervals.


# Data Storage

Radon One Sensor is compatible with smart devices conforming to Bluetooth specification 4.1 and up.\
Bluetooth is utilized to enable the functionality of the Aranet Home mobile application. When transferring data to&#x20;Aranet Home, **device memory provides 30 days historic data availability**.


# Default Settings

The Aranet Radon One sensor is calibrated in the factory, and it works instantly when it you take it out of the box and insert the batteries – no additional setup is needed. These are the default settings of the Aranet Radon One sensor:

1. The default radon measurement units are set to Bq/m<sup>3</sup>;
2. Bluetooth connection is enabled;
3. Bluetooth connection transmission range is set to normal;
4. The buzzer for audio sound alarm notifications is disabled;


# Where to Place the Device in a Room

For accurate readings, the **Aranet Radon One sensor** should be placed where radon is most likely to accumulate and where people actually spend time. In homes, this is typically the **lowest regularly occupied level** (such as a basement or ground floor). Position the device **0.8–2 meters (2.5–6.5 ft)** above the floor, in an open area with normal air circulation. Avoid placing it near windows, doors, ventilation outlets, or exterior walls, as drafts and fresh air can dilute radon levels and distort measurements. Do not place the sensor in kitchens, bathrooms, or directly next to heat sources or electronic devices. A stable, central location away from direct sunlight will provide the most representative long-term radon measurements.

The Aranet Radon One sensor should not be placed in direct sunlight or in areas with a risk of splashing the sensor with different liquids, or high-humidity environments (higher than 85%), such as your bathroom. Place the sensor in a safe place where it cannot accidentally be dropped because it isn’t drop-proof.


# Aranet Home App

This page explains how to connect Aranet Home sensors to the Aranet Home mobile application, including pairing procedures and available app features.


# Aranet Home App Overview

The Aranet Home app is the companion mobile app for Aranet’s indoor-environment sensors (like Aranet4, Aranet2, Aranet Rn+, Aranet Radon One and Aranet Radiation sensor devices).

Compatible with both iOS (iPhone / iPad) and Android.

Using the app, you get a convenient hub for monitoring, configuring, and analysing data from your sensors. Key features:

* **Real-time readings** — view current measurements (CO₂, temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, and more, depending on the device).&#x20;
* **Measurement history & data storage** — you can store past measurements (history) and review data over time. The app supports up to **90 days** of history (depending on the device and its settings).&#x20;
* **Customizable measurement intervals** — you can set how often the sensor measures and sends data: 1, 2, 5, or 10 minutes.&#x20;
* **Charts & data visualisation** — the app turns raw sensor data into easy-to-read charts and colour-coded visuals, so you can spot trends (like CO₂ spikes, humidity swings, etc.) over time.&#x20;
* **Export data** — you can export stored data (e.g. CSV or XLSX), which is useful if you want to analyze data elsewhere or keep long-term logs.&#x20;
* **Device configuration & management** — you can pair/unpair devices, update firmware, adjust sensor settings (e.g. measurement frequency, CO₂ threshold levels, buzzer/alert settings), rename devices, etc.
* **Widgets** — on supported mobile devices you can add app widgets for quick-glance values without opening the full app.&#x20;
* **Smart alerts / Notifications** — the app can notify you when certain thresholds are exceeded (e.g. CO₂ levels go into “unhealthy” range) or if the battery is low (for battery-powered devices).&#x20;

Also, the app supports multiple languages (English, German, French, Latvian, and more).


# How to Pair With the Aranet Home App

1. Download and install the latest Aranet Home app version:

2. Launch the Aranet Home app.

3. Stay close to your Aranet sensor and press “+ ADD NEW DEVICE” button:

5\. Press “ACCEPT” button when the system asks for permission:

6\. At this moment the Aranet sensor will show **6-digit number** on its screen. This is the PIN code you should enter into the application screen:

The PIN code containing 6 random digits will look like this:

7\. In a few seconds, after you have entered the code, the Aranet sensor should be paired to your phone:

# Bluetooth and Pairing Issues

#### Why is Bluetooth pairing taking so long? Why didn’t I get a PIN request on my phone?

Bluetooth pairing usually takes about 10 to 15 seconds. If it takes more than 60 seconds or an error message appears on the screen of the device, the pairing process likely has crashed.

Access to the device’s location information is a general requirement from Android operating system developers for Bluetooth Low Energy applications to work correctly. [**Read more»**](https://developer.android.com/about/versions/marshmallow/android-6.0-changes#behavior-hardware-id)\
&#x20;\
Try to restart your phone, reopen the app and repeat the pairing process. See the video [**How to Pair Aranet4 with a Smartphone App**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ER2b9mDPx10)**.** The video shows an Aranet4, but the pairing process is the same for all of the devices.

#### What would be the first things to try if the Aranet device is not pairing to the Aranet Home application on a mobile device?

Please first try:

1. Take out the batteries of the Aranet device for atleast 15 minutes
2. Put batteries in the correct polarisation again inside the Aranet device.
3. Uninstall the Aranet Home app completely and delete/forget the paired Aranet device from Bluetooth connected devices on the mobile device.
4. Restart the mobile device.
5. &#x20;Install the application again and pair the Aranet device to the mobile device, not via the Bluetooth devices menu, but only via the Aranet Home application.


# Measurement Units

The Aranet device units can be changed in the Aranet Home App settings. The settings here are only used for the displayed units in the app. If you want to change the units on the E-Ink display, then you can do that at the back of the device behind the batteries. The 1st switch changes the units.\
For the Aranet4 and Aranet2, it changes the Temperature unit, and for the Radiation sensor changes the Radiation unit. As the Pressure measurements are only available in the app, those units can only be changed here.

The Radon sensors, you can either change the units from the device settings in the app, or using the buttons or the wheel on the side of the sensor.<br>

# Graphs

The Aranet Home app has a built-in graph visualisation. To access it you can press the graph button and  then see the graphs. The graphs will then load, and you can switch between the length of time you want to see on the graph. As well as, at the bottom of the screen, between the different measurements of the device.

The radiation sensor graph looks a bit different. There are green, yellow and red areas which correspond normal/background, above background and health risk levels. The cumulative graph also shows these levels.

# Exporting Measurement Data

Here you can also export measurement data by pressing on the button at the top right (**MAKE SURE TO WAIT UNTIL ALL DATA IS GATHERED, OR YOU WILL HAVE HOLES IN YOUR DATA)**\
You can choose to download in a .csv or a .xlsx format, and for a lot of different time intervals.\
The time format of the downloaded file is the same as the one in the app settings.

# Background Data Read

Background data read is an option in the Aranet Home settings, that, when enabled, will enable the Aranet Home App on a periodic basis (once every few hours) to read data from paired Aranet devices. The devices must be within range of the phone/tablet running the Aranet Home App.&#x20;

The data is then stored locally on the Aranet Home app (90 days of data storage per device).


# Coloured Thresholds

Starting from Aranet Home app version v2.0.4 it is possible to change colour indication threshold levels for the measurements.\
In the example below, it is done for CO₂ measurements.

From the Aranet Home application, it is possible to change the value for both yellow and red threshold levels of the Aranet4 device in the range of 300 to 2000 ppm.

To configure these levels in the Aranet4 application, please:

1. Click on the settings “wheel” icon in the record of the necessary Aranet4 device;
2. In the newly opened page, click on the section **CO₂ indication mode**.
3. Select **Custom** indication mode.
4. Set the Yellow threshold value as necessary.
5. Set the Red threshold value as necessary.
6. Save settings by pressing on **APPLY CHANGES** button.
7. In case new threshold levels were successfully configured, then the Aranet4 application will show a success message: **CO₂ indication mode changed**.

The colour indication threshold level changing was not possible with application versions up to v1.20.\
By default, the CO₂ measurement colour indication threshold levels were as follows:\
Green – below 1000 ppm\
Yellow – 1000 - 1400 ppm\
Red – above 1400 ppm\

For Temperature:

Too High (red) — >26°C (78.8°F)\
Normal (green) — 20°C — 26°C (68.0 - 78.8°F)\
Too low (blue) — <20°C (68.0°F)

For RH:

Too High (red) — 70% RH\
Normal (green) — 30% RH —  70% RH\
Too low (blue) — 30% RH

For Radiation:

Green – below 0.20 μSv/h\
Yellow – 0.20 μSv/h —  10.0 μSv/h\
Red – above 10.0 μSv/h

For Radon:

Green – below 100 Bq/m<sup>3</sup>\
Yellow – 100 Bq/m<sup>3</sup> — 300 Bq/m<sup>3</sup>\
Red – above 300 Bq/m<sup>3</sup><br>


# Notification and Buzzer Settings

#### Push notifications

Starting from Aranet Home App v3.8.2, push notifications can be enabled in the Aranet Home app settings. (Works better with background data read enabled)\
You will get periodic notifications if any of the sensors move past their configured thresholds.

#### Buzzer

The buzzer is an audio alarm built into all of the Aranet devices. When the buzzer is enabled (switched on), the "speaker" icon is visible on the Aranet display. It can be enabled behind the batteries as the second switch and in the Aranet Home app:

To access Aranet buzzer settings, open the Aranet Home app:

1. Navigate to sensor settings by pressing the "gear" icon;

# Fullscreen Display on a Smart TV

#### How to display the Aranet Home application data in full-screen mode from iOS Apple devices to Apple TV?

Once the Aranet sensor is paired to the Aranet Home application on the iOS mobile device, you can display the measurement data from the sensor in full-screen mode on the app. This can be done in the following way:

1\. Click on the collapsed menu icon in the top right corner of the application main page;

2\. Click on the section **Fullscreen mode**;

3\. Select **Dark theme** or **Light theme** for the fullscreen mode;

4\. Go back to the application main page and click on the Fullscreen icon;

5\. Rotate the mobile device itself to landscape mode.

When the app is in fullscreen mode, you can mirror its screen to Apple TV:

6\. Swiping from the top right corner of the mobile device screen opens the iOS Control Centre menu and clicking on the **Screen Mirroring** icon;

7\. Wait for the mobile device to find **Apple TV** and then click on its record to see data from the Aranet4 application on the Apple TV.

#### How to display Aranet Home application data in fullscreen mode from Android devices to Smart TV?

To replicate information from any Android device to a Smart TV, both devices should support Miracast or Screen Mirroring functionality (also called HDMI over Wi-Fi).&#x20;

If you have both devices compatible with Miracast, then once the Aranet4 sensor is paired to the Aranet4 application on the Android mobile device, you can display the measurement data from the sensor in full-screen mode on the app. This can be done in the following way:

1\. Click on the collapsed menu icon in the top right corner of the application main page;

2\. Click on the section **Fullscreen mode**;

3\. Select **Dark theme** or **Light theme** for the fullscreen mode;

4\. Go back to the application main page and click on the Fullscreen icon;

5\. Rotate the mobile device itself to landscape mode and now You can mirror its screen to Smart TV;

6\. Swiping from the top edge of the mobile device screen open the Android Control Panel, find the **Screen Cast** icon and click on it;

7\. Wait for the mobile device to find the Smart TV and then click on its record to see data from the Aranet4 application on the Smart TV:

# Maintenance and Safety

This page explains recommended maintenance procedures, battery handling guidelines, and safety considerations for proper device operation.


# Handling and Cleaning

The Aranet devices are advanced electronic device in a plastic case. You should handle and clean it the same way you deal with other household electronic devices.

#### Handling

* Aranet devices are not impact-resistant; do not drop or hit it.
* Aranet devices are not waterproof; do not use it in high humidity environments (greater than 85%).
* Do not leave Aranet devices in direct sunlight. This can damage the E-ink screen
* Do not expose Aranet devices to strong electromagnetic fields.
* Aranet devices are intended for use at temperatures 0 °C to 50 °C (32 °F to 122 °F). Exposure to lower temperatures can damage the device.

#### Cleaning

You can clean your Aranet device with lukewarm water and mild soap. Mix some soap and water in a bucket, clean the case using a slightly wet soft sponge or microfiber cloth to avoid scratching the material and water drops entering the case. Make sure your detergent has no harsh chemicals that could damage the plastic and sensor, such as white spirits or Clorox.

#### Disinfecting

Alcohol solutions (alcohol / purified water) or wipes with at least 70 per cent alcohol are effective for the sanitization of the Aranet case. First, clean the surface with soap and water as described above. Apply the alcohol solution and let it sit on the surface for at least 30 seconds to disinfect. Wipe dry with a clean cloth.

You can use low-power household UV-disinfectors for Aranet4 disinfection, too. Follow the UV-disinfector instructions and do not overexpose Aranet4 to UV radiation.

# What Does the Aranet Radiation Sensor Do?

The Aranet Radiation Sensor is designed to&#x20;Keep your mind calm! Monitor dangerous&#x20;levels of ionising radiation (γ, β) to be aware of&#x20;and follow your total dose of exposure&#x20;anywhere you go. Battery life up to 4 years&#x20;provides continuous measurements with&#x20;wireless access to your radiation exposure&#x20;history through the Aranet Home app

#### What does Aranet Radiation&#xD; measure?&#xD;

#### Dose Rate

It describes how strong the ionizing radiation (γ, β) is at a given&#x20;moment. It is expressed in microsieverts per hour (µSv/h) or&#x20;millirems per hour (mrem/h).&#x20;If radiation levels rise, the device uses colors (green, yellow, and red)&#x20;to alert you, dimming the screen for high values (red level). The&#x20;default threshold levels are based on scientific recommendations 1-4,&#x20;but you can adjust them as needed through the Aranet Home app.

#### Total Dose

Total dose of ionizing radiation (γ, β) encountered during the integration time is&#x20;expressed in millisieverts (mSv) or rems (rem). Total dose of ionizing&#x20;radiation is a critical metric for ensuring environmental safety and&#x20;personal health. If the average rate at which the total dose has been&#x20;acquired exceeds 0.20 μSv/h, then the upper part of the screen will be&#x20;dimmed.&#x20;This reading can be reset from the Aranet Home app or by pushing the&#x20;mechanical button behind the battery compartment lid. To perform a&#x20;reset, press and hold the button for 5 seconds.

# Device Lifespan

# Power Options

The Aranet Radiation sensor runs on standard AA batteries. Out-of-the-box, it uses **two AA batteries**, which — thanks to its power-efficient e-ink display and smart power management — can last for a few years and potentially much longer if data updates are infrequent.
